Spotlight on IVs

IVsGetting an IV procedure for the first time can be scary. For your patients who are new to the process and you want to ease them into their experience, they can go to the Spotlight on IVs online program.

Your patients will appreciate Nurse Ima Helpa at the Health Depot as she helps them find out more about why they need an IV, what it feels like to get one, and how to make it go by a little easier.
These questions and more are answered in this graphically rich program that helps kids ages 10 to 14.

Spotlight on IVs is an interactive online game which was developed as a tool for children to actively explore information about medical procedures and conditions in kid-friendly language. Children search for meaning about their illness from a very young age, and studies have shown that children who are provided with information cope more effectively than children who are protected from such knowledge. Interactive media is a can be helpful in conveying this information, as it provides a way for children to seek information at their own pace, see animations of what is happening in their body or what doctors learn from tests, hear the sounds of machines they will experience, learn from the experiences of peers, and learn coping strategies.
