Great Escapes Coordinator
Atlanta, GA
Part-Time

Starlight is seeking a Great Escapes Coordinator to organize special outings and events for Starlight children and their families in the Atlanta area. Great Escapes are relaxing, fun-filled events for families that provide them time to connect with other families, make new friends, and spend family time together, away from the hospital. This part-time position will work from home and will report directly to the Senior Great Escapes Coordinator.

Responsibilities

Event Planning:

  • Coordinate monthly activities, including event logistics
  • Research local family venues
  • Secure venue/admission tickets

Hospital/Family Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local disease-based organizations, child life specialists and social workers
  • Keep hospitals informed about events and program updates
  • Maintain relationships with Starlight families
  • Volunteer Management: Recruit, screen, train, schedule and track all volunteers
  • Administrative duties
  • Community Relations: in-kind donations, speaking engagements, media relations/outreach

The qualified candidate will have experience in organizing events for children and/or families; Internet and basic computer skills; Ability to work independently; Excellent communication, organizational, leadership and multi-tasking skills; Ability to solicit for program support, discounts, in-kind donations; Computer, printer and Internet access.

Director of Finance
Headquarters Office
Los Angeles, CA

Starlight is searching for a Director of Finance for the Headquarters office. This exempt position reports to the Associate Vice President of Finance. 

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, accounts receivable, bank and other balance sheet reconciliations, and preliminary month-end reporting.

2. Oversees accounts payable functions and monitors weekly check run.

3. Enters and maintains annual budget in the accounting system and generates monthly budget variance reports

4. Assists Associate Vice President of Finance in maintaining Fundware accounting system and its financial reporting performance, including report writer functions

5. Assures monthly deadlines for month-end close are met for all accounting functions

6. Responsible for the management of daily cash flow and the security of cash transactions.

7. Prepares schedules and reports to facilitate the month-end close process.

8. Responsible for the filing of and compliance with state sales tax registrations.

9. Interfaces with fundraising staff to ensure accurate coding of transactions and the validity of revenue distributions.

10. Manages relationship with credit card merchant services.

11. Follows up on any NSF or chargeback issues.

12. Responsible for monthly distribution, review, and data entry for company credit card charges

13. Responsible for the collection of outstanding accounts receivables.

14. Works with Associate Vice President of Finance to adjust the chart of accounts and maintains descriptive chart of accounts.

15. Assists with the annual audit process and serves as point person for back-up information requests.

16. Monitors and manages efficiency of business operations.

17. Manages all vendor relations and contracts.

18. Obtains vendor bids and monitors purchases.

19. Responsible for annual 1099 reports.

20. Maintains all accounting files.

21. Supervises the accounting staff.

22. Ensures compliance of and maintains relationships with taxing regulatory agencies, including filing business and property tax returns

23. Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

1.  Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field.

2.  Five years experience in fiscal capacity with knowledge of non-profit accounting methods and experience in working collaboratively with development departments and chapters.

3.  Successful experience in management of staff and deadlines.

4.  Working knowledge of accounting, payroll, personnel and material management policies and procedures.

5.  Ability to work with a diverse team of staff and volunteers in a fast paced environment.

6.  Computer proficiency in accounting systems utilization, maintenance and report writing (preferably American Fundware or Financial Edge);  Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word

7.  Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.

8.  Ability to use diplomacy and respect confidentiality in sensitive situations
