IBD UIBD U was developed through a joint effort by Starlight and the Children’s Digestive Health Nutrition Foundation (CDHNF), IBDU (www.ibdu.org) is a resource site for young adults with IBD (Crohn’s and colitis) who are graduating and transitioning into adult healthcare.

The goal of the IBD U project is to help teens develop independence around managing IBD; its purpose is to provide resources that help young adults build on previous knowledge, improve self-management skills, develop a portable medical record and develop an action plan for dealing with IBD during transition into adulthood. In addition, it includes information to support and guide teens’ parents, friends/family, educators and employers during this important transitional period.

IBDU on YouTubeThe content on www.ibdu.org focuses on:

  • Education – IBD overview, medications, glossary of terms, and procedures
  • Healthcare – Insurances, prescriptions, important numbers, student health center, and transitioning to a new gastroenterologist
  • Lifestyle – Healthy habits, nutrition, drinking/smoking, sexuality and travel tips
  • Self Help – Tracking medical history, medical passport, and important numbers
