Starlight has a remarkable challenge for you - Donate to Double! 

Imagine being 10 years old. Summer is coming to an end and as school approaches, you are filled with fear. After undergoing chemotherapy all summer, your hair is gone and you are sick and weak a lot of the time. What will the other kids say? Will your old friends still want to play with you? Are you going to have to eat lunch alone?

As the mother of a child with Type 1 diabetes, I understand this fear. When my daughter was diagnosed at the end of the school year, she worried about how her friends would react when they saw her injecting herself with insulin or breaking out in a cold sweat and shakes when her blood sugar dipped dangerously low.  As a Board member of Starlight Children’s Foundation, and mother of an ill child, I also understand how important Starlight’s “Back to School” Great Escapes are for kids. Years of missing school for hospital visits and sickness lead to many kids feeling alone and scared as the new school year approaches.

Starlight’s Great Escapes allow sick kids a chance to escape their worry for a day, to find strength in their extended Starlight family - in the kids who are just like them - and to be able to face the new school year without fear.

That’s why I am extending a challenge to everyone today.

In order to raise enough funds to have as many children as possible attend a Back to School Great Escape near them, I will match every single dollar that is raised through this web page, up to $10,000 for the next 30 days!
