Starlight Toy Drives
It’s never too early to start filling up the toy bank!
Starlight Texas is hosting a series of happy hour events around the DFW Metroplex to collect toys for hospital visits, celebrations and (believe it or not!) the 2010 holiday season. We estimate needing 1500 toys for the year.
We hope you will join us for one or more of these fun-filled evenings that will include snacks, beverages (complimentary cocktails), entertainment and the chance to donate a toy that will brighten the life of a seriously ill child.
The first toy drive was held on Thursday, June 24 at the American Airlines CR Smith Museum. Hundreds of toys were donated by generous guests
Keep you eyes on our events page to learn about future happy hour events. Simply bring a new, unwrapped toy for Starlight children or make a donaton of $20 at the door.
In adition to toys, the Starlight Texas team needs the following items all year long to help with Great Escapes family activites and Hospital Happenings events.
- Rolls or books of stamps
- Gift cards to fast food restaurants, video stores, Wal Mart or Target for inclusion in cheer packages
- Small toys, stickers, and hard candy for gift bags handed out at events.
- Children’s Band-Aid® products
- Kid-themed birthday party plates and napkins
- Crayons and coloring books
- Markers
- Play-doh
- Bubbles
- Stickers

Royal Tea in Laredo
The first annual Women’s City Club Starlight Tea was held at the Laredo Country Club on February 27, 2010. Guests enjoyed a selection of savories and sweets and a live cooking demonstration by Darren McGrady, The Royal Chef. Guests also placed the heart in Build-A-Bear Workshop bunnies to be distributed to children being treated at Laredo Medical Center and Doctor’s Hospital in Laredo.
Laredo Starlight child, Gaby, was the extra special guest for the Starlight Tea event, joining Darren onstage to prepare a traditional Scottish shortbread. Money raised at the event will be used to fund Great Escapes family activities for Laredo-area Starlight families.
Starlight Texas Celebrates the Third Annual Spring Issue Launch with Perfect Wedding Guide
Perfect Wedding Guide’s third annual Spring Issue Launch event was held at the Warwick Melrose Hotel on April 1, 2010 and raised more than $4,000 for Starlight. Perfect Wedding Guide also provides in-kind support through a complimentary ad featuring Starlight’s Wedding Celebrations program.

Shecky’s Girls Night Out Dallas
Starlight Texas was the beneficiary of the February Shecky’s Girls Night Out. Starlight received 10 percent of the proceeds from registration. Dallas designers Shirin Askari, from Project Runway Season 6, and Geoffrey Henning, Design Director at JC Penney, joined staff at the Starlight table to promote local activities and events.
