Kohl’s Employees – Always There When We Need Them (Thank you!)
The Kohl’s A-Team Volunteers have provided amazing support for Great Escapes family activities since we started serving Texas families four years ago. The Kohl’s team always arrives eager to assist wherever they are needed. Whether they are helping children with crafts, serving refreshments, or lending a hand with setup and clean up, the Kohl’s team is always laser focused on job one — making sure every child leaves with a smile. And they are really good at that job!
To honor the time their employees spend serving the community, the Kohl’s Foundation makes a $500 donation to support each event at which they volunteer. These donations allow us to invite more families to each Great Escape. In the second half of 2010 alone, Kohl’s Foundation donated $5,000 to Starlight Texas.

StarPower Lets Kids Help Kids
Starlight’s StarPower program was created to showcase the power of young people who engage in meaningful community service to help other kids.
StarPower participants:
- Use their own personal “star power” to brighten the lives of young people who are battling chronic illnesses, life-altering injuries and
life-threatening diseases.
- Volunteer to help spread the word about Starlight and how others can reach out to help seriously ill children and their families.
- And, where appropriate, organize and/or participate in fundraising efforts to help provide programs and services for Starlight families.
Want to get involved? Starlight is currently looking for student groups to make hand-made birthday and feel better StarPower cards to be distributed to the seriously ill children Starlight serves. Starlight will make sure that your card is delivered to a child in need of a spirit-lifting surprise.
In acknowledgment of outstanding philanthropy, Starlight will reward any school or other group that returns 500 or more decorated cards with a commemorative plaque.
There is no required donation to participate in this program. However, to offset Starlight’s cost to deliver the cards, we recommend a
minimum $1 donation per card. Know that with every $12 we receive, we can provide our programs to a family for an entire week.
