Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston receives four new Starlight Fun Centers® and more than 3,500 Starlight Gowns™
HOUSTON, TEXAS (May 15, 2019) – Starlight Children’s Foundation, an organization that delivers happiness to seriously ill children, has partnered with Colgate-Palmolive and H-E-B to donate four Starlight Fun Centers and 3,550 Starlight Gowns to hospitalized kids at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. The donation is part of a $420,000 corporate gift from Colgate-Palmolive who has generously supported Starlight Children’s Foundation for more than 30 years.
Starlight Gowns and Starlight Fun Centers entertain, educate, and inspire hospitalized children and their families dealing with difficult medical challenges. Fun Centers are mobile entertainment units powered by Nintendo designed to roll throughout the hospital providing kids with the healing power of play through video games and other streaming content. The gowns transform the hospital experience through fun, comfy, and colorful hospital garments that kids love to wear. Starlight delivers these and other programs at no cost to extremely ill patients and their families through its network of more than 800 children’s hospitals and other health care facilities in the US.
“Every child deserves to experience the happiness and fun of childhood, especially when they’re facing a serious illness,” said Adam Garone, CEO, Starlight Children’s Foundation. “Thanks to this generous gift from Colgate-Palmolive and H-E-B, thousands of kids at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital will now have the chance to enjoy their favorite video games and films on a Starlight Fun Center while wearing one of our incredibly soft, comfortable, and colorful Starlight Gowns.”
Today, Starlight, Colgate-Palmolive, and H-E-B hosted a dedication ceremony at Children’s Memorial Hermann in Houston to celebrate the generous donation with support provided in partnership with H-E-B. In 2019, Colgate-Palmolive is funding the delivery of 12,800 Starlight Gowns and 20 Starlight Fun Centers in communities across the United States.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Colgate-Palmolive and Starlight Children’s Foundation to bring a smile to the faces of the young patients at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital,” said Martha Barrera, H-E-B Public Affairs manager. “It’s our hope that by providing these children with a big helping of joy, we can play a small role in the healing process.”
“We are so grateful for Starlight, Colgate-Palmolive, and H-E-B’s generous Starlight Gown and Fun Center donation,” said Dottie Barnhart, Child Life Specialist at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. “Our patients specifically ask for these programs by name because having an astronaut or cowboy designed Starlight Gown or access to a game or movie makes being in the hospital a lot easier!”
Colgate-Palmolive has partnered with Starlight since 1989 and has provided more than $14 million to sponsor the placement of hundreds of Fun Centers, gowns, and other Starlight programs at hospitals across the country. To learn more and make a donation to Starlight, please visit www.starlight.org.
