Today marks Easton’s one year anniversary defeating his tumor, or what his family jokingly referred to as the “Death Star”, turning something scary into a narrative he already loved and connected with – Darth Vader.

It began when Easton was just two years old. He fell in love with Darth Vader during a family movie-thon. He’d ask for “bum bum” on the TV, leaving everyone confused—until one day, Darth Vader appeared on screen and Easton lit up. “BUM BUM!” he yelled with delight.

Fast forward a few years and Easton faced a very real battle: Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.

Treatments were typical for fighting cancer; hospital stays, chemo, and more.

Easton proudly wore his gown throughout his hospital stay, including on the day he got discharged – May 4th of last year.

His family threw him a full Star Wars celebration, including blow-up lightsabers for staff, catered lunch and music.

He marched down a hallway full of hospital staff, cheering and throwing confetti to celebrate his ultimate victory of defeating the “Death Star”.

Since then, 12-year-old Easton has been having fun just being a kid.

He’s gone on vacation with family, exploring nature and doing all sorts of sports – boogie boarding, snowboarding and surfing to name a few.

Help Improve Kids’ Hospital Experience

Though one year has passed, the community support and happiness Easton and his family felt at the hospital remains.

Lindy, Easton’s mom, shares:

“From the cheerful patient gowns that turned hospital days into superhero moments, to the thoughtful gifts that brought real joy during some of our hardest times—your support has made a world of difference. You’ve reminded us that even in the middle of medical battles, childhood still matters.”

In honor of Easton's one year celebration, help more kids gather courage to keep fighting their toughest battles.
