Camden Finds Happiness to Get Through Burn Recovery

When Camden was injured in a burn incident, his family’s day-to-day life was put on hold.

From that point on, their life became about Camden’s hospital visits, treatment and procedures.

“We literally revolve everything around Camden,” his mom, Courtney, shares.

Camden stayed at the hospital center for burn patients for nearly two weeks. Then he transferred to another hospital for more than 51 days.

Their hospital stay was long, and the days felt endless. Camden was bored, and at times, he felt really down.

That all changed when he got his hands on a Starlight Gaming Handheld, powered by the Nintendo Switch while in the hospital.

Camden's eyes lit up as he smiled brightly, bouncing from one game to the next. He loved how many different kinds of games he could play!

Courtney noticed a difference in Camden right away. “His emotional state changes the most [after he plays],” she shares. “He goes from being down to upbeat and ready to go.”

Camden’s happiness lifted those around him, including Courtney. She shares:

“It makes me happy to see my son have a bit of happiness through this terrible experience!”

Many kids spend days, weeks and even months in the hospital often without knowing when they’ll be able to go home.

But when kids get to play, getting through the day feels a little easier.

It improves their hospital stay, and they feel a boost of happiness. Before they know it, another days has passed as they lose track of time while having fun.
