Celebrating National Physical Therapy Month

October is National Physical Therapy Month...

A time to celebrate the many ways physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and PT and PTA students help improve lives across the country.

Starlight’s mission is to deliver happiness to seriously ill kids, and with partners like The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethany, Oklahoma, Starlight programs can support kids who are receiving physical therapy to treat an injury or illness.

The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital is home to the only inpatient pediatric rehabilitation program in the state. The incredible staff at their Pediatric Medical Rehabilitation Unit (PMRU) care for kids of all ages that have experienced traumatic or congenital injury, sudden illness, or post-surgical recovery. The team works with families to develop individualized rehabilitation plans that optimize mobility, healing, and independence of patients in their care. With the support of a team of incredible therapists, kids and their families have the training and resources they need for a smooth transition to home, school, and the community.

One of the best things about working in pediatrics is not only providing these opportunities but witnessing them experience something for the very first time and including the family. We are able to initiate meaningful interactions between our patients and their families, by showing the families just what their child can do. We get to be a part of enhancing quality of life for the whole family. ~ Jill Bussey, DPT - Inpatient PT

Many children who require physical therapy spend weeks, months, and even years in hospitals, missing out on important childhood moments and milestones due to their complex medical needs. Starlight’s programs offer physical therapists a variety of fun, entertaining, and accessible ways to help kids experience moments of joy, no matter what limitations they face. From Starlight Deliveries full of fun toys and activities, to our Gaming stations and Virtual Reality headsets that let kids escape to other worlds and play their favorite games, there is something for everyone!

Starlight Programming offers a variety of toys, books, costumes, etc. that therapy and child life utilize as opportunities for incentives, pretend play, gifts, token economy merchandise, etc. We also have a couple of the portable gaming systems that our teens/tweens love to play!

Starlight is honored to celebrate the amazing work of physical therapists across the country. Through partners like The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital, Starlight is able to deliver happiness to so many kids who need us!
