Starlight is committed to equal access to our programs and ensure diversity at all levels of our organization.
We at Starlight reject all forms of discrimination and stand for an inclusive and equitable environment for our employees, donors and partners, hospital network, and the patients and families we serve.
We have expanded our Commitment for Change initiative to ensure Starlight Programs are available to US hospitals and facilities caring for pediatric patients regardless of racial identity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic standing.
Since we began this work in 2020, our Commitment for Change initiative has expanded to include:
Exclusive newsletters for under-resourced hospital partners, providing early access to beneficial programs for their patient populations
Programs created and provided in additional languages, representing multiple cultures and ethnicities
Working with corporate partners to source more diverse and inclusive gifted products to offer to our hospital network
Highlighting and appreciating our diverse network of fundraisers and individual givers through public digital channels
Internal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training for all staff and workshops on communication and emotional intelligence to improve mental health and overall culture
So far in 2022, we have accomplished:
55% of the facilities receiving our programs serve patients, based on Census demographics, that are considered medically underserved and/or vulnerable populations
63% of Starlight’s programs have positively impacted pediatric patients’ hospital experience in a medically underserved and/or vulnerable area
48%of Starlight’s distributed programs feature products representing multicultural/multilingual, disabled, and LGBTQ+ patients or focus on STEAM and clinical education
Starlight will continue to prioritize ourCommitment for Change initiative through intentional program distribution, responsible fundraising efforts, and creating a safe space of belonging.
