Meet The8BitDrummer, Drumming Streamer

This September, Starlight is honoring Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by hosting the second annual Stream For Starlight (S4S) campaign—a month-long virtual fundraiser that invites businesses, influencers, gamers, and individuals to stream content and raise money to deliver happiness to seriously ill kids.

To celebrate S4S 2020, we’ll be highlighting content creators to showcase the various ways you can get involved!

Have you ever seen someone drum so fast or so enthusiastically you can’t help but stop and stare? That’s how Jerod “The8BitDrummer’s” Stream For Starlight was last year on Twitch. He drummed song after song, and without skipping a beat, thanked each donor in real-time.

As he played Dragonforce – Fury of the Storm, his community commented, “I can feel my arms falling off watching him drum this song!”

Jerod and his community raised $5,000 to place a one-of-a-kind Starlight Gaming station at MUSC Children’s Health in Charleston, S.C. This hospital is local to Jerod and one where a family member was treated years ago.

Starlight Gaming stations are portable, and on wheels, so they can roll up bedside to a child. They come pre-loaded with all the best Nintendo video games, and this one will feature the Nintendo Switch!

We are so thrilled Jerod is back again this year for S4S 2020. We asked him a few questions that may inspire YOU to join!

What inspired you to S4S?

  • I have always wanted to do some kind of charity work. With the influence and outreach that streaming on Twitch has allowed for me to have, I have made it a regular occurrence to do a "Charity Streaming Day" once a month. Basically, all of the income from that day of streaming goes to a charitable organization. I was inspired to stream for Starlight because of a wonderful email sent by one of the staff of Starlight. As an Entertainer (Or... Influencer or Streamer... whatever you want to call me) I get a ton of emails asking for me to be a part of something. Most of the time it is very "Robotic". They don't even get my name right half of the time HAHA. This email was different, very personal and you could tell the person that wrote it deeply cared about wanting me to get involved and that was the reason I ended up raising for Starlight! That extra effort goes a long way with me.

What did your community think of your stream?

  • The community loved the fact that we were raising money for kids in dire health situations but in a different way. They loved the idea around giving kids the opportunity to well... be kids. Gaming has been a major part of my life for a long time and I and my community are happy that we could make some kind of an impact in kids’ lives in a cool way!

What makes you excited to S4S again this year?

  • I am ready to raise some more money, that’s for sure! This year has been crazy with the different crisis’ that have hit and I can't imagine the way those kids in the hospital are feeling. Whatever way we can make an impact, I am game!

Watch and support Jerod’s S4S 2020 stream on Sept 29.

Thank you, Jerod and the entire community, of The8BitDrummer. Seriously ill kids across the entire US and in over 800+ children’s hospitals and facilities SO appreciate you.
