Starlight Deliveries Spread Holiday Cheer

This holiday season, seriously ill kids are stuck in hospitals across the country, away from the comfort of their own home and missing out on precious time with family. Our hospital partners know how exciting this season can be, so they do their best each year to turn the hospital into a winter wonderland.

Usually, hospital staff are participating in decorating contests, inviting Santa Claus to visit children, and holding parties filled with photo booths, games, and crafts to celebrate.

This year, COVID-19 has forced them to adjust their plans. Now, staff are decking the halls and relying on donations of books, toys, games, and more from Starlight Deliveries to brighten a child’s hospital experience during the holidays.

Starlight Deliveries sends hundreds of thousands of books, toys, games, arts and crafts, and other items directly to seriously ill kids. Hospital staff and kids love Deliveries because playing can help distract kids from pain and reconnect them with their home lives. Unlike in-person programs or events, these deliveries can continue even during the coronavirus pandemic.

This winter, with young patients finding themselves isolated on one of the most exciting days of the year, our partners are using Deliveries to help Santa drop off presents on Christmas morning!

“Being in the hospital can sometimes be difficult for kids and families, especially around the holidays. The toys will be great to use for BINGO prizes and gifts for patients throughout the year. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are greatly appreciated,” said Pat Kirkland, Manager of Family Support Services at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

We are glad Starlight Deliveries can bring a little holiday magic to hospitals across the country. As the coronavirus continues to change how hospitalized kids can celebrate, our partners can also use our festive holiday coloring sheets as a resource for bedside activities.

Give happiness this holiday season. Your gift can help provide toys, crafts, and other fun items to hospitalized kids.
